On Nature

With every passing day I keep getting surer of the fact that I am a nature lover. To me nature is ubiquitously romantic and eternally flirtatious. There is a lovely contentment in the dance of the trees, the song of the birds and the music of the rivers. A contentment that is hard to find among the smoke and sweat of all things human.

With every passing day I keep getting surer of the fact that I am a nature lover. Is not everybody? Has not everyone spent time under the afternoon sky, making shape out of clouds? Has not everyone stared at the night sky, which is embellished with the embroidery of stars? And has not everyone watched the waves run to the shore and expected the time to pause?

I have. I have cherished all the small moments that I have had with the so little of nature that I get to experience.

Very rarely do the man-made structures instill as much satisfaction as the wonders of nature do. And yet, so often we replace the latter for the former; not pausing even once to think of the crime that we are committing against our planet, which carries us in her bosom, or against ourselves, who so solely depend on nature for inspiration of any sort. We are stripping all that is living and surrounding ourselves with concrete.

What are we doing? Oh, what are we doing?

The most saddening of all is that we have not yet opened our eyes to the horrors of global warming, climate change, extinction of species- all in the name of economic growth. Expending the natural riches to amass man-made wealth.

When did we go so blind?

All I really wish is that someday we can all agree to come together and protect our nature. And I hope that when that day comes, it is not too late.
